5 UX Tips for Ecommerce Websites to Boost Customer Satisfaction

After reviewing 100s of retail sites, I wanted to share some UX best practices so you can create a more seamless mobile shopping experience.

Here are 5 ways to make a more human retail shopping experience.

  1. Have a clear CTA above the fold. Make it clear what your company sells and how someone can learn more.
  2. Remove automatic carousels. Carousels may seem flashy and cool but they’re simply not effective when it comes to converting visitors to qualified leads. Not only do they lead to slow load times, but they also create a poor user experience that reflects badly on your brand (ImpactPlus)
  3. Make sure your site is fast. How quickly should a webpage load? 47% of customers expect a webpage to load in 2 seconds or less, according to skilled.co. Work towards creating an instant web experience. [Tips]
  4. Optimize the checkout flow. Reduce clicks as much as possible by using inline validation, auto fill, reducing the number of fields, and allows shoppers to checkout as a guest.
  5. Focus on what product details shoppers want to know. Some of the best ecomm sites all use high quality images, allow users to filter / sort, make the price clear, and include reviews.

Helpful questions to ask your team:

  • Does my site provide what shoppers want?
  • Does my site include a value prop that gives shopper confidence (ie; free return)?
  • Can shoppers find what they are looking for quickly (ie: optimized search and menus)?
  • Can shoppers convert later or create a wish list? Focus on building lifelong customers versus the one-time splurge shopper.
  • How can I make the checkout process easy, especially on mobile?
